After completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at McGill University, Dr. Radu Pescarus continued his medical studies at the University of Montreal. He pursued his general surgery training in the hospitals of the University of Montreal, followed by a one-year fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at McMaster University. Subsequently, he underwent a second clinical fellowship in Portland, USA to further his knowledge of esophago-gastric surgery as well as advanced gastrointestinal therapeutic endoscopy. Upon his return to Quebec, he joined the surgery department of the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal and is currently an Associate Professor at Université de Montréal. His clinical practice specializes in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, foregut surgery, as well as gastrointestinal therapeutic endoscopy, including third space endoscopic procedures. 

Dr. Pescarus is currently the President of CABPS and is equally involved with the clinical and research training of international bariatric surgery fellows, as well as senior residents during their minimally-invasive surgery rotation every year. His academic interests include clinical outcomes research in revisional bariatric surgery and the endoscopic treatment of upper gastrointestinal surgical complications.

bio picDr. Michel Gagner, MD, FRCSC, FACS, FASMBS, FSSO

Dr. Michel Gagner, MD, completed his residency in general surgery at McGill University and undertook a fellowship in Paris in liver surgery and a second fellowship at the Lahey Clinic (MA) in pancreatic and complex gastrointestinal (GI) surgery. He was an early practitioner of laparoscopic technique (world’s first laparoscopic removal of adrenal glands, liver, bile duct, and pancreas). He was also a pioneer in endoscopic surgery (treatment of parathyroid and thyroid tumors); robotic technique; and, with Professors Marescaux and Leroy in Strasbourg, telesurgery (first transatlantic robot-assisted surgery). Dr. Gagner (Cleveland Clinic, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, Cornell University, Université de Montréal, Florida International University) is currently Director and Chief of Surgery at his private clinic, Westmount Square Surgical Center, in Montreal, where he concentrates on metabolic/bariatric surgery (MBS) for weight loss and treatment of type 2 diabetes. 

Dr. Gagner is the Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of GT Metabolic Solutions Inc. The company founded in 2020 is focused on thedevelopment of magnetic compression anastomosis technologies for next-stage minimally invasive procedures.
