Objectives
- Exploring the relationship between microbiology and bariatric surgery including new insights into gut microbiota and obesity.
- Evaluate the incidence of SIBO after bariatric bypass procedures.
- List risk factors for developing small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
- Detail potential nutritional consequences of SIBO.
- Describe the potential impact of elevated levels of methane, hydrogen sulfide, and/or hydrogen via breath test.
- Effective Treatment of SIBO.
- Define ideal bowel movement, constipation, and bacterial overgrowth after gastric sleeve and bypass surgeries. There will be a focus on the symptoms, tests, and risk factors of having SIBO.
- Review difficult case studies to assist with improved patient care.
- Discuss what the current research means for practice.
