Effects of Bariatric Surgery on Psychiatric Medications

Dr. Richard Yanofsky is a staff Psychiatrist at Toronto Western Hospital.  He graduated from McGill Medical School and did his Psychiatry residency training at the University of Toronto. He completed a fellowship in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry with research interests in the psychosocial assessment and treatment of Bariatric Surgery patients. He presently practices at University Health Network in the Medical Psychiatry Program and works as psychiatrist in the Toronto Western Hospital Bariatric Surgery Program.


Presentation Overview: 

This presentation cover a broad review of commonly used psychotropic medications in terms of safety, tolerability, effects on weight, and general considerations on their use, both before and after bariatric surgery.  Medication classes to be discussed will include antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, hypnotics and anxiolytics.
