Dr. Pomp is an internationally recognized expert in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques. A graduate of McGill University and the University of Sherbooke he completed surgical training in Montreal and Rhode Island and practiced in Montreal for a decade before moving to the Weill Cornell Medical College/New York Presbyterian Hospital. He is Chief of the Section of Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery, the Leon C Hirsch Professor of Surgery and is the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery for Quality and Patient Safety.

Dr. Pomp has been included in Castle Connolly’s list of New York’s “Top Doctors” since 2002. International recognition includes honorary membership in the Brazilian College of Surgeons and the Hellenic Society of Laparoscopic Surgery.
 
Dr. Pomp has published more than 100 peer-reviewed studies and has spoken at over 250 national and international meetings.  He is currently a funded investigator (PI) in NIDDK/NIH Bariatric Surgery Research.  He also serves on the steering committee and chairs the adjudication committee for LABS (Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery), a major clinical, epidemiological and behavioral research study on the impact of weight-loss surgery on the health of obese patients. His primary clinical expertise includes bariatric surgery, minimally invasive foregut, solid organ and hernia surgery.
