Dr. Joseph Mamazza
Dr. Joseph Mamazza received his medical training and completed his residency in Surgery at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Mamazza was an Assistant Professor at the McGill University from 1989 to 1996 and at the University of Toronto 1996 to June 2005. In July 2005 he joined the The Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa, Department of Surgery as Chair of the Division of General Surgery.
Dr. Mamazza is an active clinician in the areas of gastrointestinal surgery. He has dedicated his career to the development and promotion of minimally invasive surgery as it pertains to body cavity surgery and in particular foregut and colorectal cancer surgery, as well as renal transplantation. From 1996 to June 2005 while at the University of Toronto he was Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and in 1998 he was appointed Medical Director of Minimal Access Therapeutics at St. Michael’s Hospital.
Dr. Mamazza’s publications have included over 200 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, abstracts, posters and multiple videos presentations mainly related to Minimally Invasive Surgery. Since 1998 he has been involved with medical journals as journal reviewer. Dr. Mamazza is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Surgeons and holds a Certificate of Specialists of the Province of Quebec. He is a member of numerous surgical organizations including the American Board of Surgery, the Canadian Association of General Surgeons, the Canadian Medical Association, the Quebec and Ontario Associations of General Surgeons, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He is also a member of the North American Fellowship Council.
In November 2005 he was appointed as Medical Director of Minimal Invasive Diagnostics and Therapeutic Priority Theme at The Ottawa Hospital. His primary responsibility will be to lead The Ottawa Hospital in the development and promotion of Minimal Invasive Therapeutics and Diagnostics with emphasis on education, research, and standards of clinical care. He is also the Co-Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at The Ottawa Hospital. |
